Together with colleagues from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), Prof. Yang has opened up a new research field of local resonance acoustic metamaterials. He has published a series of papers in Science and Nature, together with multiple U.S. and Chinese invention patents. He has been in the world's forefront of scientific research and practical applications in this field over the past 20 years.
Together with his two colleagues at HKUST he won the inaugural Brillouin Award by the International Phononic Society in 2013, which is the highest international award in the field of acoustic metamaterials.
